Open Studio time for students age 18 years and older. You MUST have attended a minimum of two instructed classes prior to being able to sign up for Open Studio. The hours of Open Studio are between 7:00am and 10:00pm. Contact us for special requests. The studio fee includes unlimited studio time, one bag of clay, one bisque, one glazing and firing. Open Studio time will be offered by the month starting the first day of the month and ending the last day of the month. Please read the Pottery Studio rules and etiquette prior to using the Studio. General Etiquette
- Treat the people, studio, and equipment with care, respect, and kindness.
- Do not touch, move, or bump others’ work.
- Clean and return studio tools; do not leave them drying at the sink.
- Wipe splash pan with water off; turn it on only for a final rinse.
- Clean as you go, and always finish with a clean, wrung-out sponge.
- Do not move to a new area without cleaning the current one.
- Return pedal, cord, and stool to the wheel; wipe the floor around your wheel.
- Place only clean clay scraps and slop in the recycle bucket — never floor or sink waste.
- Label all clay and greenware with your name and date using masking tape.
General Studio Policies
- Studio is unavailable during posted class times.
- All open studio users must sign in.
- Open studio use requires prior class experience or staff approval.
- Participants must be 18 or older.
- No outside clay; glazes must be approved by staff.
- Take home finished work within 30 days.
- Studio purges occur four times a year; notifications sent via email.
- Studio is not responsible for broken or abandoned pieces.
Storage Guidelines
- Label and date greenware; place on designated shelves.
- Label and store personal clay in the proper location.
- Remove work from base as soon as possible.
Glazing Guidelines
- Stir glazes thoroughly before use.
- Do not cross-contaminate glazes; notify admin if it occurs.
- Wipe glaze counter and clean any spills.
- Keep bottom ½” of each piece free of glaze.
- Return glaze buckets under the table with visible labels.
Safety Rules
- Do not handle kilns or glaze chemicals.
- Report accidents or broken items to studio admin.
- Bring questions, concerns, or ideas directly to studio admin.
